La Vedettes
La Vedette’s Tribute to Showgirls had
its grand opening in De Hallen. My work for Women in Art is being displayed till the 10th of March.
Come visit any time! The work centers around Cabaret:
La Vedette’s Tribute to Showgirls had
a theatrical genre in which art exists through sexuality.
In these types of shows, gender expression is taken to the extreme,
managing to glorify what for centuries has been considered socially unacceptable.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SHOWGIRL AND A SKILLED PERFORMER?
Well, showgirls are not only able to dance, sing, and act simultaneously,
but they also make use of their charisma, beauty, and sex appeal to make their shows more dynamic.
While an artist’s act revolves entirely around a single virtue, its talent; a showgirl performance combines a series of elements,
ranging from the costume itself, her poise, her facial expressions, the music, her voice and dance; which create the impression of witnessing a full show, even when there’s only one girl onstage.
These pictures are part of an ongoing project that I started because
of the opportunity I have with ‘Woman in Art’. Strong, beautiful, magnetic and most important inspiring woman who have in some way made me the woman. I am today. Thank you Vedettes for giving us women a place to express ourselves
in our own terms without losing ourselves in the process to be where we are in life.
